Feb. 7th, 2013 11:45 pmThe laptop is very badly damaged and may be replaced under insurance but how quickly is anyone's guess. The writing hasn't been going as well as in the past, but I've still hit 80k words.
HELP. THE COMPLETE MANUSCRIPT FILE TAKES A GOOD THREE MINUTES TO LOAD ON THE BACKUP COMPUTER I AM USING.
I was flailing at my sister about that, and the fact that I've reached a bit of a 'now what?' point in the book. But I know what, of course, it's just I'm not sure how to do it. My plans were all for how the Big Questions were getting sorted, but I don't know how much detail I want to go in to a lot of it, and how best to show public perception of the situation, etc.
And my sister said something I am very angry at her for saying: 'Maybe it's two books.'
Because NO IT IS NOT. It ends at the coronation with a crowning moment of heartwarming that is a literal crowning. Except if it was two books I'm right at the end of the first one, because he's getting to stay as King but has a huge struggle ahead of him still. And it's starting to make sense, actually.
But I do not want to split it. BUT if I kept going like this I'd end up with a huge sprawling thing that would be a bitch to edit and I HATE EDITING. And looking at something as huge as the finished product will be and contemplating editing it afterwards is going to intimidate me so much. The one time I did nano I won, with relative ease, but it left me with a 50k word fanfic that I STILL HAVE NOT EDITED because it was too much effort. So, yeah.
I was really panicking. But then my sister suggested I start a new document and just go from where I left off. And so then I'll have two smaller things that I can attempt to edit down and if I manage to get it small enough to be one book then YAY. And if not, I figure it out then. Which I've just done, and it's already helped me.
If nothing else, it will make loading it on this thing easier.
